Ardina 3 shots off in Kuala Lumpur Open

02/23/2012

Dottie Ardina stumbled with two bogeys coming home and settled for a two-over 74, dropping to a three-way tie for third and three strokes off Malaysian Nur Durriyah Damian at the start of the Kuala Lumpur Amateur Open in Malaysia Tuesday.

Ardina, gearing up for her defense of the Queen Sirikit crown in April, held her ground in the early going with two birdies against two bogeys but the top ICTSI-backed bet lost her rhythm at the backside and wound up with a 36-38 card for joint third with local bets Gianti Mahardika and Kelly Tan.

The troika stood three strokes adrift of Damian, spearhead of the SEA Games bronze medal team who used a 35 at the front to fire a 71 and post a one-shot lead over Isza Fariza Ismail in the 54-hole tournament, which drew more than 180 entries at the Kelab Golf Perkhidmatan Awam layout.

Lovelynn Guioguio, who bagged the national ladies crown last month, strung up nines of 38-37 for a 75 and a share of sixth with Vivienne Chin and Janice Ling Hui Shin.

Princess Superal, one of the new members of the ICTSI squad who placed runner-up in last month’s Philippine Ladies Open at Wack Wack, carded a 74 for solo ninth.

Jayvie Agojo, the reigning Hong Kong Amateur Open champion, failed to get her game going and struggled from start to finish and ended up with a 77, six strokes off the pace.
