Mandaue bets up
DUMAGUETE CITY — Defending champion Mandaue City began its quest for a successful title defense as two of its boxers won their opening bouts Thursday in the 2012 PLDT-ABAP Visayas Area Championships at Robinson’s Mall here.
Kevin Jake Cataraja survived bouts in spite of cramps on both legs and a two-point deduction for excessive clinging to post a hard-earned 19-14 victory over Argie Alabado of Bago City.
Hipolito Banal, 14, meanwhile, negated the height advantage and hometown support enjoyed by Daniel Folio of Dumaguete City B by hacking out a masterful 18-2 win in the junior boys pinweight (56kg) division.
