Rubilen Amit’s explanation was simple; “I was caught off-guard.”

Amit yesterday showed up at the office of Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Harry Angping to personally apologize for her involvement in the lightning rally waged by a small group of wrestlers who called for the resignation of the PSC chairman last week.

She apologized four times.

“I’m embarassed and very sorry for what happened,” said Amit, who paid Angping a visit along with other cue artists, including Francisco “Django” Bustamante, Rodolfo Luat, Warren Kiamko and Carlo Biado.

Another central figure in the rally, Mary Ann Basas also apologized before the PSC boss.

“I was caught off-guard. I didn’t realize that other (athletes) would put me on the spot and asked me top say something against the PSC chairman during the rally. I didn’t want to get involved in politics, actually. I just want to play in the SEA Games.”

Angping said Amit would still receive P2,500 bonus together with her allowance for two months which the PSC has suspended following the bitter leadership dispute between the factions of Arturo “Bong” Ilagan and Sebastian Chua in the Billiards and Snooker Congress of the Philippines (BSCP).

The suspension of the athletes’ allowance was Amit’s main beef when she took the microphone and lambasted Angping before a small crowd during the rally last Oct. 19. The wrestlers, however, questioned Angping’s involvement in the Asian Junior Wrestling Championship, prompting them to file a case before the Office of the Ombudsman.

Angping Amit and other athletes are on top of his priorities.

“Everybody was very happy,” said Angping, announcing the outcome of his brief meeting with the pool players. “She (Amit) was deceived and misinformed about the rally. I gave her P2,500 plus the two-month allowance and training suit for the SEA Games.”

“She asked for apology four times,” he added. “I accepted it because I saw the sincerity in her.”

“All nine of them and one coach will be on the Dream Team,” Angping said. “They are now ready to win in the SEA Games.”
