Perpetual reclaims cheerleading crown

10/22/2009

Former three-time winner Perpetual Help showed up with a near-perfect performance as it regained the title it lost last year by topping the 2009 Samsung NCAA Cheerleading competition before a huge Wednesday crowd at The Arena in San Juan City.

Combining beautifully choreographed dance with difficult pyramids and stunts laced with pop music, the Perps amassed 335.5 points to run away with this year’s cheerleading title, the top purse worth P90,000 courtesy of Samsung and the distinction as the best there is in the league.

Last year’s champion Jose Rizal finished at distant second place with 311 points, the only other school that breached the 300-point to pocket the first runner-up purse amounting to P55,000.

Guest team Emilio Aguinaldo College sent shockwaves down the competition venue as it snatched a surprise third place effort by edging powerhouse San Sebastian by just a hairline, 244-243.

The Generals took home the third place purse worth P45,000.
