SBP exec says Rabeh a done deal
10/13/2009 Fresh from another title-clinching performance for Ateneo in the 72nd UAAP men’s basketball tournament, Rabeh Al-Hussaini is on the verge of joining Smart Gilas in its campaign in the ongoing PBA Philippine Cup. “We are close to coming to terms with Rabeh,” Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) executive director Noli Eala yesterday said.Al-Hussaini, the 2008 UAAP Most Valuable Player, is expected to join Gilas in its practice today, giving Serbian coach Rajko Toroman another gem of a big man following the recent inclusion of controversial Japeth Aguilar in the national developmental program.Apart from Aguilar and Al-Hussaini, Junmar Fajardo of University of Cebu and Paul Lee of University of the East are also high in Toroman’s wish list. Eala, however, said nothing final has materialized with the two prized standouts.“We have already started talking with Paul Lee’s handlers,” Eala said. “As for Fajardo, we’re still waiting for the Cesafi (Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc.) to end.”“We are very optimistic that they will support the national cause and the Gilas program.” Julius Manicad
