Angping assures PSC support to athletes
07/02/2009 Philippine Sports Commission chairman Harry Angping yesterday assured government support to athletes in their buildup for the 25th Southeast Asian Games, saying not even the PSC’s squabble with the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) would afect the PSC’s commitment to fund their trip to Laos. The PSC has earmarked P35 million for the biennial meet this December. Angping also struck a deal with China where the finest local athletes will be given world-class training for the SEA Games and the 2010 Asian Games. Angping and POC president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco had a major rift recently, fueling speculations the PSC would make a last-minute withdrawal of support to Team Philippines. “No, it won’t happen,” Angping said. “The PSC is created for the athletes and I’ll make sure they would not be caught in the crossfire. All plans for the SEA Games will still push through as what we have projected.” Julius Manicad Back to top
