No room for ‘dirty players’ in NCAA
06/16/2009 The NCAA will not be very forgiving to players who will be caught playing dirty. League commissioner Aric del Rosario yesterday warned to instantly toss out players that would be caught committing dangerous fouls like punching, kicking or elbowing, among others, that endanger the health of other players. “We will not tolerate dirty players in this league, they would be immediately ejected if we find them intentionally doing it,” said Del Rosario, the same coach who steered University of Santo Tomas to a four-peat in the UAAP in the 1990s. Del Rosario explained dangerous fouls like these take away the beauty of the game. “There’s nothing wrong with being physical, but playing dirty is a different thing,” said Del Rosario, who would tap a different set of referees mostly from NABRO. Del Rosario also announced hand check fouls will be strictly enforced to encourage players and teams to play honest defense. On flopping, Del Rosario explained its up to the referees to decide whether to call it a blocking foul or an offensive foul or just let it go depending on the effect of the play in the offensive player.
