Ateneo, Adamson bets make Petron semifinals
07/27/2008 Standouts from Ateneo and Adamson barged into the semifinals of the 2008 Petron Ladies’ Beach Volleyball Tournament’s third leg at the University of the East-Caloocan campus. Lady Eagles Asia Urquico and Jessica Morado pulled off the tournament’s most thrilling encounter — a 22-20 nipping of University of the Philippines’ Ivory Joy Rivera and Pauline May Genido for their third win in four games and a slot in the semifinals of this volleyball extravaganza, backed by Petron, Speedo, Mikasa and the UE-Caloocan Athletic Department. The Ateneo tossers rallied from five points down at 6-11 with Urquico’s service winners and Morado’s timely court placements. After tying the contest at 20-all, the Lady Eagles won the game on a reception error by Rivera and a smash by Urquico from the net. Power-serving Hannah Suarez and Angela Benting of Adamson University, on the other hand, overpowered National University’s Bernadette Victoria and Mervic Mangui, 21-3, to also finish with a 3-1 record. Wielding a mean all-around game, Suarez and Benting first pulled off a 21-16 stopping of Mary Ann Panganiban and Clarize Lucindo of the University of the Philippines, then went on to outplay University of the East campaigners Aimee de la Pena and Megami Bendijo, 21-12.
