Two persons had gone missing after the car they were riding fell down a river after a bridge in Batangas City, Batangas province collapsed yesterday, at the height of Typhoon “Santi.”

Batangas Provincial Disaster Coordinating Council (BPDCC) and Philippine Information Agency (PIA) 4-A reported that one of the three passengers of the car was rescued by responding volunteer rescuers but the two others went missing.

The BPDCC and PIA 4-A said 39-year-old Malou Soriano, a health worker, was rescued shortly after the incident but her 40-year-old husband, Romulo, and three-year-old child, Nicolo, went missing after their Honda Civic car fell into a river while crossing Calumpang Bridge in Barangay Gulod.

Authorities said the Tulay ng Pangako (Bridge of Promise) collapsed after it was swamped by floods spawned by the rains dumped by Typhoon “Santi” early yesterday.

Engineering teams from the Department of Public Works and Highways and the Philippine National Police joined forces in searching for the missing two. PNA
