11/01/2009
More than 50 houses were destroyed and several people were injured when a strong twister swept through a village in the coastal town of Ternate in Cavite province, at the height of typhoon “Santi” (international codename “Mirinae”) early yesterday. The tornado hit Barangay San Jose before dawn, the police said. Those who were injured were taken to hospital for treatment, the police added. Ternate local government officials said they were awaiting assistance from the Cavite provincial government, which was then busy responding to other typhoon-affected areas in the province. Ternate is a fourth-class coastal municipality. According to a 2007 census, it has a population of 20,457 in 10 of its barangays (villages). PNA Back to top
