Agents of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and elements of the Navy on Friday killed one of the country’s most wanted criminals at his safehouse in a remote coastal village in Sorsogon province. Manuel Antonio Eduarte, NBI agent-in-charge in Legazpi City, Albay, said a team of combined NBI agents and Navy men went to arrest Jaime Gonzales at his determined safe house in Barangay Sinangatan, a coastal village in Matnog, Sorsogon on Friday evening. Gonzales, a native of Matnog, was facing a string of robbery-in-band, homicide and physical injury cases before the regional trial courts of Makati and Quezon cities. According to Eduarte, Gonzales attempted to escape and was shot by one of the members of the arresting team, who hit him in his left shoulder. Eduarte said Navy paramedics administered first aid on Gonzales aboard the BRP Hilario Ruiz gun boat before taking him to a nearby hospital. But while being treated at the hospital, he died due to loss of so much blood, the NBI official said. The Department of Interior and Local Government had raised a P500,000 bounty for the capture or killing of Gonzales. PNA Back to top
