China, RP to enhance relations
10/22/2009 Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi will be in Manila for a two-day official visit next week to sign an expanded joint cooperation agreement between the Philippines and China. The Chinese embassy in Manila described the visit as “significant” as it is expected to boost Philippines-China strategic relationship of cooperation and enhance the close friendship between the two countries. “At the invitation of His Honorable Foreign Secretary Alberto Romulo of the Republic of the Philippines, H.E. Yang Jiechi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, will pay an official visit to the Philippines from 28 to 29 October 2009,” the embassy said in a statement. During his visit, Yang will hold talks with Foreign Secretary Romulo on bilateral, regional and international issues of common interest. As discussed and agreed upon by the Chinese and Philippine sides, the Joint Action Plan for Strategic Cooperation would be signed by the two countries. “This is a framework of general principles of the two countries. It aims to continue cooperation in a strategic way, covering political, economic and cultural relations and other areas,” Chinese embassy spokesman Sun Yi said. (Michaela P. del Callar)  Back to top
