The leadership of the Philippine National Police (PNP) yesterday commended the 4,200 police personnel who were deployed to provide security to the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) International Conference on Green Industry in Asia last September 9 to 11 held at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

PNP chief Director General Jesus Verzosa commended the National Task Force "Greening Industry in Asia" headed by Deputy Director General Jefferson Soriano for a job well done in securing the delegates and the venue of the conference.

Based on reports submitted by Soriano, there were no untoward incidents that occurred during the conference.

Soriano said they monitored several protest rallies during the conference but explained the rallies were not related to the conduct of the UNIDO conference.

Several groups from different PNP units tasked to perform different missions and duties on airport security, hotel and billet security, area security at the conference venue, close-in security to VIPs and foreign officials, traffic management and route security, emergency medical services, communication, public information and civil disturbance management composed the NTF Greening Industry in Asia.

Environment Secretary and head of the organizing committee Lito Atienza said the conference was a success.

Atienza added the International Conference on Green Industry in Asia served as a great avenue to "highlight the Philippines’ potentials for clean development projects which are integral to the country’s green growth strategy."

The conference was attended by 692 delegates from 21 various countries, 11 senior officials and seven ministers from Maldives, Thailand, Nepal, Afghanistan, China, India and Lao People’s Democratic Republic.

The Philippines hosted the UNIDO Conference on Greening Industry in Asia Manila through the Department of Environment and Natural Resources with the support of the UNIDO, the United Nations Environment Program and the United Nations Economic and Social Commission.

Other PNP units involved in the security operations were the Directorate for Operations, Directorate for Intelligence, Intelligence Group, Police Security and Protection Group, Highway Patrol Group, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group, National Capital Region Police Office, Special Action Force, Maritime Group, Aviation Security Group, Health Service, Communication and Electronics Service, Police Community Relations Group and the Public Information Office of the Philippine National Police.
