The kitchen portion of Super Ferry 1 was struck by fire while docked at the Manila North Harbor while serving a suspension order from Marina after the recent Super Ferry 9 mishap in Zamboanga recently.
Senior Supt. Pablito Cordeta, chief of the Bureau of Fire Protection-National Capital Region, said the fire occurred at 3:42 a.m. yesterday.
The vessel was reportedly docked in the place along with several other grounded passenger ships of the Aboitiz Transport System Corp. at Pier 15 or the Eva Macapagal Super Terminal in Manila.
The fire that reached first alarm was immediately controlled by firefighters and declared fire out at 4:37 a.m.
Authorities placed the damage at P100,000.
Initial investigation showed the fire was caused by an alleged defective fluorescent lamp.
All the passenger vessels of the shipping companies were all grounded by authorities while they are investigating the Super Ferry 9 tragedy in Zamboanga several weeks ago that left nine persons dead.
