02/12/2009

Parañaque City will celebrate the 11th anniversary of its cityhood on tomorrow, a declared non-working holiday.

The declaration of the date as a non-working holiday was made possible by Proclamation No. 1714 which was signed by Executive Secretary Eduardo Ermita on Jan. 23, 2009, giving residents and city officials an opportunity to celebrate their cityhood anniversary with the appropriate ceremonies.

“It is a great honor for us to celebrate the anniversary of our cityhood and the declaration of Feb. 13 as a non-working holiday will provide our constituents with a long weekend where they can rest up after a long week of work or spend some quality time with their families,” Mayor Florencio Bernabe said.

The city government has lined up a host of activities for the month of February with the theme “Parañaque Panalo sa Serbisyo Todo” (Parañaque Prevail in Genuine Service).

Bernabe also encouraged everyone in the city to take part in the month-long festivities as an opportunity for them to see the many developments that have greatly improved the city’s socio-economic status.

The main activities will were held yesterday, Feb. 12, with Morning Mass said by Msgr. Manny Gabriel with the Don Galo Elementary School Choir, Distribution of Philhealth Cards, Award of Recognition for top Parañaquenos, Food Festival under the supervision of Parañaque First Lady Ms. Maria Fe “Girlie” Bernabe with the Baclaran Elementary School Unit 2 students playing the rondalia, showcasing Parañaque’s signature delicacies and a Motorcade of floats from the city’s 16 barangays starting from Bradco Avenue, Macapagal to Shopwise Santana Grove Sucat ending with a live concert with bands such as Rivermaya and South Border as well as dance numbers and a fireworks display.

He added his administration will continue to implement projects and programs that will elevate Parañaque to a modern and progressive metropolis. PNA
