Makati gov’t extends help to sister municipality
01/04/2009 The Makati City government recently extended support to the Municipality of Sta. Rita, Samar by sending relief goods to indigent families of the city’s sister municipality. Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay said it is the duty of the city to send help to localities in dire need of assistance. The City of Makati previously forged sisterhood relations with the municipality of Sta. Rita. “I believe it is the task of those localities which have more to help out those localities struck with calamity or extreme poverty. Typhoons have constantly battered Samar and we only want to help the people rebuild their lives,” Binay said. Meanwhile, the Municipal Council of Sta. Rita has passed Municipal Resolution No. 103-2008 expressing sincere thanks and appreciation to the city government of Makati and Binay and for the relief goods. “Such laudable act of assistance is indeed a clear manifestation of their deep concern towards the less fortunate members of society and perhaps recognition of the fact that sisterhood relationship really exists and is in operation between Sta. Rita and Makati,” the council said. Binay said it is the responsibility of every Filipino to help fellow Filipinos, especially in times of crisis. “We must rely on each other for strength and support. As Filipinos we must help each other in trying times. That, I believe, is the key to building a better nation,” Binay said. Back to top
