Divisoria mall yields banned ’crackers

11/16/2007

Manila Police District (MPD) operatives yesterday raided a mall in Divisoria and seized a big volume of banned firecrackers.

In his report to MPD director Chief Supt. Roberto Rosales, Station 11 commander Chief Supt. Bernardo Diaz, who led the operation, said they received an information that firecrackers were being kept at the basement of the mall.

The Bureau of Fire Protection earlier had declared the mall basement as a “fire trap.”

Sr. Supt. Pablito Cordeta, Manila fire marshal, said the volume of firecrackers kept at the basement of the mall surprised the inspection team. He added the area also lacked fire exits.

Cordeta warned that if the vendors were allowed to continue selling firecrackers at the mall, an accident could happen.

The confiscated illegal firecrackers were pulled out from the mall.
