Who gets your vote?

Will these computer-enhanced looks of the main presidential contenders in the May 10 national elections affect their chances of winning?

Less than three weeks before registered voters cast their vote for the new Philippine President, Dr. Victoria Belo of the Belo Medical Group transforms former President Joseph Estrada, former Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro and Senators Manny Villar, Noynoy Aquino and Dick Gordon in the ABS-CBN early morning show Salamat Dok with Bernadette Sembrano-Aguinaldo as host.

Salamat Dok provides information on medical concerns, with free on-air consultation with the guest physician. Every third Sunday of the month, Dr. Belo guests in the program and discusses the latest treatments and procedures being offered by the Belo Medical Group.

Since the minimum age requirement for the position of president is 40 years, Dr. Belo thinks gravity is the main culprit that takes a toll on the candidates’ appearance. She says it is a must to look good if one will be in the limelight and constantly exposed to cameras and the public. She says it is important for the future president to take care of their looks with the use of latest cosmetic surgery procedures.

Dr. Belo says a virtual makeover can reveal said candidates in a whole new light: dynamic, self-confident and energetic personalities, vital qualities that the public appreciates. She opines, “There is no more excuse not to look good (these days).”

For this purpose, Dr. Belo took actual photos of the main players, identified their hair and facial flaws, prescribed treatments (hair transplant, removal of skin pigmentations, eyebag removal, nose trimming and liposuction to make the face smaller; Botox injection to remove facial lines; Thermage to tighten skin and other proven procedures), applied them on actual photos using advance computer technology and, voila, a cyber makeover!

This writer’s opinion is that the best makeover is that of Erap as it enhanced his good looks (to think he turned 75 last April 18!) and the least successful is Villar’s as it made him funny-looking. There’s no way for us to know if these cosmetic surgeries by laptop are effective as they are unimplemented with not enough exposure time to see if they actually work. Who do you think looks better with a makeover?
