An election of the beauty kind
01/19/2010 “This is not a beauty contest, but a kind of competition that is not based solely on physical appearance, but mostly on (one’s) beauty inside…and how Flawless products and services affect their physical well-being,” explains Rubby Sy, Flawless CEO, who could well be the perfect image model of her high-profile chain of beauty centers. At the media launch of the 25 finalists of the ongoing Picture Flawless competition, the marketing whiz showed just how she has reinvented “elections” by doing it the Flawless way: everybody wins! With a mind on prosperity and sharing of blessings, Ruby “buys” votes in a way that no manipulation whatsoever. The two Picture Flawless competition winners get to represent the company alongside its celebrity endorsers Lorna Tolentino, Judy Ann Santos, Richard Gutierrez, Mark Herras, Yasmien Kurdi, Alyssa Alano and Butch Francisco besides winning P800,000 cash, among other prizes. Voters win prizes, too. Picture Flawless, the search for the next Flawless endorser, reaches a fever pitch with this exciting announcement to battle it out for the endorsement package and fantastic prizes. They are Abigael, Apple, Aristotle, Carlo, Catherine, Cerafin, Doris, Eric, Jason, Jean, Jenny, John Rudolph, Julie, Keina, Paulo, Paul, Raf, Rizha, Robert, Rose Carmen, Sam, Stephan and Trina. The competition began last October 2009 and will continue until February 2010, when the winners will be announced. The finalists will campaign aggressively for themselves throughout the ensuing month. They will mobilize friends, family and Flawless clients to vote for them through text or by availing of Flawless products or services at any of the clinic’s 32 branches nationwide. For the general public, the contest is a way for the average Filipino to identify what is the flawless characteristic that defines the nation. Keep an eye on Flawless billboards, banners, posters and print ads over the next month to get to know the finalists, and choose your favorite. Then place your vote either through text or through visiting your favorite branch. Text voters stand to win big in the raffle draws, the first of which takes place on Jan.18, followed by the last raffle draw on Feb. 8, which is when the top two will be announced. The first raffle will see eight winners of P8,000 in Flawless gift certificates each. The second raffle applies to the text voters that supported Mr. and Ms. Flawless — two voters stand to win P80,000 in Flawless gift certificates each. The more you vote, the more chances you have of winning as each text qualifies as one raffle entry. Standard rates apply. Branch voters have it better. Each peso spent in Flawless entitles the patient to one vote, making it essentially less expensive than text voting. During the Jan. 18 raffle draw, eight won P8,000 in cash each; during finals night, two voters among those that supported Mr. and Ms. Flawless could win up to P80,000 in cash! So what are you waiting for? Imagine the benefits. First of all, you get to choose the person that represents you and what you think is a flawless characteristic. Secondly, as a text voter, you stand to win great gift certificates from Flawless, plus you get a 15 percent discount on Flawless products and services each time you vote. Thirdly, as a branch voter, you could win huge cash prizes each time you vote. So study the beautiful and handsome finalists well, and pick your favorite! Flawless is buying your votes, and putting it to good use, for the endorser that represents you best. Don’t you wish the 2010 national elections can be done the Flawless way? Pops as Marimar, Martin as Fernando Jose! Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez’s “One Amore Time” concert on Feb. 14 at the SMX Convention Center, SM Mall of Asia, will have the passion and vibrancy of Latin soap operas. According to concert producer Mae Vinluan-Dolonius of Mauve Management and Entertainment, the repertoire and dance numbers will be based on a soap opera-style storyline. The musical extravaganza is bound to make Martin and Pops the sexiest and most daring in their entertainment career under the direction of Rowell Santiago. Martin considers “One Amore Time” special because he and his ex-wife will once again get to celebrate love in a way only they can. “When Pops and I do a show together, it’s more real compared to others because we had a past even as we have a present because of our kids,” he said, adding that it was their son, Robin, who thought of the title. Pops, on the other hand, looks forward to singing songs in the concert that they have not done before. “It’s one Valentine’s show in which you’ll feel love just by watching it, whether you already have someone special or not. We’re looking into doing old and new songs, either hit or obscure, that we’ve not done before so it’s something new both for us and our fans,” she said. The two revealed that they have spent most Valentine’s Days together even before they got married and after they parted ways. “We’ve hardly had a Valentine’s Day dinner, let alone a full date on Feb. 14 because we usually have shows together, solo or with other artists that day. Then again, that’s not so bad because we at least make our fans happy… make them feel the love,” said Martin. Pops jokes, “Yes, the highlight of many of our Valentine’s Day together is greeting each other, ‘Happy Valentine’s’— and then snoring the rest of the night away.” For tickets, call 0918-8859335, 0922-2630183, 0906-3718174, 0917-7499860, 0922-8132119, or 425-7598/401-8002. Kris’ flare-up not a promo gimmick Not a few showbiz insiders thought that Kris Aquino’s flare-up against Valle Verde 2 neighbor Mayen Austria one week before the pilot of her new ABS-CBN drama series Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo with Kim Chiu and Gerald Anderson yesterday, Jan. 18, was a promo gimmick. But they were wrong as it was a spontaneous reaction once she learned from husband James Yap that Mayen had talked to him on the mobile phone complaining about her unfaithful boyfriend. Kris decided to go to her house. Mayen’s mother talked to her at the gate and Kris expressed her concern about the unnecessary strain Mayen has caused to her relationship with James. They had an LQ (lovers’ quarrel) just before Christmas and she’s very concerned about their marital peace. Kris did not make a scene, as a national broadsheet reported; even the neighbors corroborated that no shouting or commotion took place. Buzzstation thinks the incident was “dramatized” by the broadsheet that scooped it, hopefully not because it wants to boost circulation or worse, it is converting into a tab. Kris is fully aware what creating a scene will do to Sen. Noynoy Aquino’s presidential bid, so she would be very careful. Notice Noynoy has been getting more than his fair share of negative publicity. Well, this is just one of them and more are coming. Kris heads the formidable cast of Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo who will give life to characters that will etch indelible marks in the history of Philippine television: Gabby Concepcion as Steve, Kris Aquino as Celine, Albert Martinez as Frank, Jacklyn Jose as Astrud, Gina Pareño as Petulah, Maricar Reyes as Selina, Gloria Romero as Barbara, Maxene Eigenmann as Alicia, Kim as Gwen, Gerald as Robbie and Coco Martin as Ringgo. Under the direction of three versatile directors, Erick Salud, Trina Dayrit and Dondon Santos, Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo is shaped by three soap opera genres, namely, action, family drama and love story, drawing a yarn on how an individual’s love for another is put to the test and how destiny can entirely re-arrange one’s life. Until now, I have not figured out how Kung Tayo’y Magkakalayo will defy the meaning of love, but it’s enough to make me eager to watch! Rep. Irwin Tieng donates ambulance van Buhay party-list Rep. Irwin Tieng recently donated an ambulance van to Pangil, Laguna during the celebration of the town’s Bandana Festival last month. The donation is part of his commitment to assist small towns in their emergency needs. He has previously donated ambulance vans to Batangas, Laguna and Cavite. The van was turned over to Pangil Mayor Juanita Manzana (beside Tieng). The young congressman also actively holds medical missions, as well as grants educational assistance to marginalized college students.
