Blue jeans are forever

Transforming the typical blue jeans into a wardrobe essential may be the work of masters in the fashion world, but keeping it in style is everybody’s job. If not for the brave, fashion-forward souls who dared to bring these ordinary pairs of "workwear" from the fields to the streets and then to the runway, denim jeans would not have found its rightful place in the fashion world. The entire jean-loving populace who love to reinvent jeans, the Philippines included, also deserve credit for keeping the practical yet modish pieces in check in the style meter. And with more ways of wearing those favorite blue jeans discovered, it is safe to say that as far as fashion and practicality are concerned, blue jeans are here to stay.

The Philippines just

got Lucky!

Fortunately for us, who saw the evolution of denim from plain workwear to fashion essential, more denim brands are catering to our different style preferences. This also means more choices for the fool-proof fashion piece that we love to dress up, dress down and just live in! With the coming of Lucky Brand to the country, denim-lovers have just found a new place of worship.

Lucky Brand came into the denim scene almost two decades ago when friends Gene Montesano and Barry Perlman, who are both stalwarts of blue jeans and rock ‘n’ roll, breathed life into their idea of individual style via clothing.

"They really understand the passion, their love for rock ‘n’ roll and jeans so they combined the two together. They really love this item (blue jeans). They make it not just everyday wear. They make it casual, day wear and night wear," says Katy Leung, regional brand manager of Lucky Brand. Nineteen years later, Lucky Brand finally hit Philippine shores.

The brand has come to be known for its vintage-inspired jeans, as well as its signature "Lucky You" tag stitched on the fly of every pair. Leung is confident that you’ll find your soon-to-be favorite pair of jeans in Lucky Brand because they have a tailored fit that many jeans brands covet, but few are able to really deliver. Even the washes and styles are of high quality, something you’ll only find in an excellent pair of denims.

"For every single pair (of Lucky jeans), the wash is created by one single person and that it is subject to the approval of the head," Leung shares, explaining the amount of work put into the making of each piece.

So it’s not impossible for your pair to last longer than your other denim jeans. "You really have to try it on to feel the difference. The quality of our jeans is really worth the price," she enthuses.

Several ways to wear your favorite pair

During the opening of Lucky Brand’s first store in the country located at Greenbelt 5, models showed how truly versatile jeans are. They affirmed the style-savvy’s valuable tip: go casual or dressed up by simply throwing on perfectly fitting, sexy jeans. Take, for example, the Sundown-R Classic Fit Jeans that a model wore with a simple shirt. This ensemble is laidback, casual style. But wear the jeans with a fitted tank top, a motorcycle jacket, chunky accessories and ankle boots and voila! — you’ve channeled the biker chic look.

You can also go for a classic look. Wear your favorite jeans with a fitted blouse, a polo shirt or polo and a pair of wedges. If you’ve got beautiful gams, you can also flaunt it by wearing denim shorts, a season must-have. Tuck a crisp, white shirt or polo, highlight with a unique belt and wear with gorgeous pumps. This gives you a fresh, young vibe.

Because fashionistas simply fawn over the borrowed-from-boyfriend fad, Lucky Brand offers its take on the boyfriend jeans. The pair has the unmistakable relaxed, slouchy fit that goes very well with a simple tank top and a pair of ballet flats for casual wear. If you want to take these jeans from day to night, you can pile on the accessories, wear them with a sexy top and slip into sexy stilettos. The very comfy, but still very trendy Boyfriend 3/4 Jeans also works well with a tee.

If casual is your style, you’ll love Zoe Denim Bermu Cut-Offs that you can pair with a baby tee, a tank top or a cute sleeveless shirt. The classic bootleg is also a must-have simply because it doesn’t go out of style. The Zoe 2D Bootleg Jeans can be worn with a simple t-shirt or a lacey top to create a variety of looks.

Ladies with spunk will also do well to follow the example of Hollywood trendsetters such as Blake Lively, Cameron Diaz and Jennifer Aniston, who up their style ante by pairing jeans with the right tops and accessories. So while it’s still monsoon season, take advantage of the fact that you can get away with wearing blazers, cardigans, jackets and hoodies. Lucky Brand’s Lola Boot-R Jeans are perfect to be worn with a sleek jacket.

Try on Lucky Brand’s Skinny Jeans and make your ensemble more interesting with a simple white tank top and a vest or scarf for layers. Also, get a blazer or a tailored jacket, which are the hottest items to have this season. Pair them with your favorite denims such as the Legend Zoe Skinny Jeans or even Minneola Short Denim Skirt for the right mix of flirty and fierce in one outfit.

In the fashionista’s book, a pair of flattering blue jeans is as indispensable as a well-fitted, classic, white shirt in her wardrobe. As long as you’ve got the right fit for your body, you can’t go wrong with jeans!

Lucky Brand Jeans is available at Greenbelt 5 and soon at Shangri-La Plaza Mall.
