Manila F.A.M.E. International

holds road show

On its 26th year, Manila F.A.M.E. International, Asia’s Best Design Destination embarked on a road show around the country’s provinces to support companies from the regions who have what it takes to sell to the international market.

The Manila F.A.M.E. road show covered 11 cities, namely Tuguegarao in Cagayan; Baguio in Benguet; San Fernando in La Union; Tagaytay in Cavite; Angeles in Pampanga; Cebu, Tacloban in Leyte; Samar; Bohol; Cagayan de Oro; and Davao. This is to encourage design entrepreneurs to showcase their wares and ideas to the government-led trade show for home and fashion lifestyle — Manila F.A.M.E. International.

Boxes, bags, and creative packaging made of banana fiber, jars made of fiberglass, banana, coco twigs and bamboo, fashion accessories made of raffia and buri, as well as house items made of water lilies were some of the products from the locations visited that are expected to grace Manila F.A.M.E. this April.

Close to 80 companies signified interest to join Manila F.A.M.E. this April. The show is a bi-annual fair led by the Department of Trade and Industry’s Center for International Trade Expositions and Missions. Manila F.A.M.E. is the only Union des Foires Internationale-accredited fair in the country. For the April edition, the show will bring together the country’s leading designers and manufacturers under a Design Royalty theme.

Meet the rest of the country’s design-driven companies at Manila F.A.M.E. International scheduled on April 15 to 18 at the SMX Convention Center. For information, visit www.manilafame.com.

Real Living’s shopping guide

for the art newbie

In order to appreciate art, you first need to experience it. Begin by reading up on different artists and browsing through websites of artists and galleries. Real Living recommends looking for pictures of their works so that you can tell what styles and themes catch your interest the most.

Armed with an idea of what kind of artwork interests you, visiting an art gallery should no longer be such a daunting task. Try visiting Real Living’s picks of discreet, un-intimidating, yet important galleries, such as Green Papaya Art Projects, Boston Gallery, Finale Art File and Hiraya. Make sure to deal with a reputable gallery and develop a relationship with the gallery owner or curator, as these experts can give you sound advice when you decide to begin purchasing art pieces.

When you’re ready to buy your first art piece, remember that it has to be something that you really like. The piece has to be something that you will enjoy seeing in your home.

The March issue of Real Living, which is a Color and Paint Special, is available in newsstands, book stores and supermarkets nationwide.
