Nash Aguas an amazing actor

Award-winning director Peque Gallaga said that voicing a movie is a hard thing to do. That’s why he was really impressed with Star Magic actor Nash Aguas, who did not have a problem doing it. The 10-year-old voiced the lead character Buboy in Dayo. In voicing, the dubber must not only be concerned with synchronization with what’s going on the screen, but put across the correct emotion at the same time he’s reading the script. Peque makes a comparison between Nash and himself, a seasoned actor and much-acclaimed filmmaker. “Nash had only few mistakes in voicing. That’s understandable. Nobody’s perfect. On the other hand, I made many mistakes! Oh my God! It’s shameful! And to think he has more lines and a wider range of emotions to do. Nash is an amazing actor!”

Will Devaughn shares his blessings

Jag Black endorser Will Devaughn graced the BayaniJuan Outreach last Wednesday, Dec. 10, in Navotas. Will met ABS-CBN sales manager Mabelle Garcia of BayaniJuan during Judy Ann Santos’ “Plato Para Kay Ploning” fund-raising event at the Rockwell Tent where they shared a table. Mabelle thought of inviting Will to the outreach event, which he gladly accepted. During the event, he hosted the games for the kids. BayaniJuan is ABS-CBN feeding program for 5- to 12-year-old kids whose beneficiaries include 330 children and 270 families. Will is currently recording his debut album, with the country’s best composers contributing songs for the album to be released next year. He is also set to leave for the US on Dec. 29 to visit his mother whom he had not seen for the longest time. He’ll be back on Jan. 10.

‘One Night Only’ girls reveal secret desires

The second press conference of 2008 MMFF official entry One Night Only from Octo Arts gave Buzzstation the chance to talk to the five female stars who opened up on their secret desires. Diana Zubiri admits she still fantasizes about Wendell Ramos even if she has been in a one-year relationship with a non-showbiz boyfriend. Jennylyn Mercado announced that Patrick Garcia is banned from entering the subdivision where she lives with Baby Alex Jazz, Patrick’s son. She said at the presscon, “I don’t want to talk to him anymore, period!” Alessandra de Rossi is producing an album “for nothing,” as she put it. Why? She composed and produced all the songs. She’s planning to fly to Italy where her father lives to shoot a music video for the CD. When asked who will direct it, she said she will direct it herself. Katrina Halili admitted R&B singer Cris Lawrence is her current boyfriend. Valerie Concepcion, for her part, admitted she has no boyfriend presently, but fantasizes about having a one-night stand with none other than Sam Milby.

Joshua Dionisio, unbothered he’s uncut at 14

Joshua Dionisio, who turned 14 last Dec. 14, did not seem to mind admitting he’s uncircumsized at the Star Magic birthday bash for Yuletide babies. He’s not bothered. He plans to have it when school’s out. Joshua bagged the recent Star Awards’ Best Actor in a Single Performance for Maalaala Mo Kaya. He was surprised to receive such a prestigious recognition at 13. He may be pressured now that there are more expectations, but he promised to continue his good work attitude. Joshua also won Best Child Actor for a Robin Padilla movie entitled Kulimlim. A cast member of Kung Fu Kids, Joshua was busy doing school tours as part of his campaign for his new endorsement. He has been on tour in schools both in Manila and provinces to promote Digitel Bida Broadband. He continues his studies in School of Tomorrow and is presently a second-year high school student.

BF keeps his promises

MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando, now endearingly referred to by many Filipinos as “BF,” promised the people from the entertainment media who attended his victory party as Celebrity Duets Season 2 grand champion that he was going to share his P1 million prize. He hosted a Christmas party for us yesterday in Marikina City were food, prizes and fun flowed. BT also showed his singing prowess doing such songs as “When I Look Into Your Eyes,” “Santa Claus is Coming to Town,” “Jingle Bells,” “Ang Pasko ay Sumapit,” “Last Song” and “Pitong Gatang.” This shows that BF keeps his promises. There’s no doubt about that. He has a track record to prove it. When he took over the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) in 2002, he promised to increase its earnings. He did exactly that. MMFF financial highlights record an all-time high in gross receipts under BF’s tenure, doubling even tripling the amount listed in the records. In the first year, it amounted to P315 million as against the previous year’s P148 million. In 2006, MMFF recorded the highest gross at P416 million, which has yet to be surpassed this year. Last year’s gross was P377 million. As he makes a complex issue sound simple, he explained his agenda, “The MMFF’s mandate is to raise funds for the Movie Workers Welfare Fund beneficiaries. And the records will show you that we have been successful so far in fulfilling this mandate.” And he’ll gladly sing a song while doing that.

Jinggoy thrilled to work again with Christopher

The 2007 Metro Manila Film Festival is most memorable to Jinggoy Estrada as it gave him a Best Actor award — his first — for Katas Ng Saudi, followed by two other tropies from the Entertainment Press of the Philippines and FAMAS. It was also his first time to be directed by Joey Reyes, again directing Jinggoy in Magkaibigan, an entry to this year’s filmfest, co-starring Christopher de Leon, Dawn Zulueta and Maricel Laxa, with Tirso Cruz III and Bobby Andrews in special roles. Jinggoy recalls that he first joined the filmfest in 1986 via Bagets Gang, his second movie after Markang Rehas. It was followed by Paradise Inn. And before that he co-starred with Christopher in Kung Mawawala Ka Pa. He’s thrilled to be working again with Christopher, whose Metro filmfest record is second to none. Christopher has topbilled numerous filmfest entries, including the classic Ganito Kami Noon, Paano Kayo Ngayon, produced and directed by National Artist Eddie Romero. He also starred in such memorable filmfest entries as Haplos, Kung Mangarap Ka’t Magising, Dekada’70s, Mano Po 2 and 3, Bulaklak ng Maynila and Gaano Kita Kamahal. All the cast members found Jinggoy a wonderful co-worker and producer, who made them feel relaxed on the set and they never ran out of food.

Kamikazee guitarist wants to be with family for Christmas

Kamikazee lead guitarist Led Zeppelin Tuyay, whose bag was detected to have traces of marijuana at the Dubai International Airport, will be presented to prosecutors on Dec. 25. Dubai Consul General Benito Valeriano visited him at the airport’s terminal 2 where he is presently detained. He wants to be deported to the Philippines so as not to prolong the problem. Still single with a girlfriend, Led Zeppelin is a kind and courteous guy who supports the education of his five siblings. Reports have it that he is lonely and trying his best to deal with the trouble. He does not want people to get angry with him and feels very concerned about the family he left in the Philippines. He admits it was an honest mistake. The marijuana had been there for the longest time that it had turned into powder. All he wants now is to be with his family for Christmas.
