Basic but not boring: Bayo steps up for the holidays
11/21/2007 One of the reasons Ilonggo clothing brand Bayo made it in the local fashion industry is it has always stayed true to Filipino sensibilities. Providing clothes that are stylish yet subdued, timely rather than trendsetting, Bayo over the years has grown to be one of Manila’s most influential fashion brands, seen on such iconic celebrities as Lea Salonga, Danielle Cojuangco, Barbie Almalbis and Kitchie Nadal. Its newest face, KC Concepcion, personifies the ambition that Bayo has reached with ease – a brand that is fabulously Filipino, and proud of it! For its Holiday 2007, the brand introduces evolutionary changes to the three parts of its much-coveted collection – the Basic, the Trendy and the Young. This season is full of ’80s influences, as shown in a recent fashion show at the Shangri-La Plaza Mall. Its Basic line, ever popular, has a slew of classic black, white and red pieces – colors that also make an appearance in the Trendy line, which is made up of more fashion-forward pieces. The Young line, meanwhile, explodes in bright colors this season, which range from yellows to hot pinks to bright and subdued greens and violets, as well as electric blues. Adding oomph to the range are a few metallic and shiny pieces – patent ballet flats, metallic bags — to keep one up-to-date. Silhouettes remain slim yet never figure-hugging, and hemlines are still short and sassy. Hot pants, jumpers and leggings make an appearance, as well as a few key items like opaque colored stockings worn with short dresses or shorts. Although Bayo is a brand built on basic items, it has always managed to inject excitement in every collection. While it can always be depended on to have timeless, clean and essential pieces, it is also a good source of quality trendy pieces. Mixing and matching is always encouraged to suit a variety of fashion personalities. Bayo is as much for the young as it is for the old, for the conservative and the daring. The person who wears Bayo is confident and sure of herself. She knows what the look of the moment is, but doesn’t necessarily pick up every trend. She knows what will look good on her. She also knows that good style doesn’t have to be expensive. Knowing this person that’s a fan of the label is key to the continued success of Bayo. — With reports from DSV Back to top
