At a red-y
10/23/2007 Replicating the emanations emitted by objects when viewed in their infrared range, Alvin Villaruel’s Reds, on view at the Finale Art File (4/F LaO Center, Pasay Road cor. Makati Ave., Makati City) until Oct. 30, departs from the world’s visual context, entering the diaphanous realm of temperature. His images, unrecognizable now, flicker, radiate and twist like flame, revealing their purplish intensities and the icy, unbreakable shapes of their blues. His paintings then are translations of the visible as a constellation of a vast range of heat and cold which the skin sharply identifies as it navigates its environment in a continuous act of self-preservation. Tactile and alive to the mind, Villaruel’s conflagrations prove that beneath the materiality is a current of the abstract. Call 813-2310 or visit www.finaleartfile.com. Back to top
