‘Joc-joc’ gets back 32 bank accounts

Since Dec. 20, controversial former Agriculture Undersecretary Jocelyn “Joc-joc” Bolante, the suspected architect of the P728-million fertilizer fund scam, has regained control of some 32 bank accounts after the Court of Appeals (CA) allowed a freeze order on the accounts to lapse. A CA official, who requested anonymity, said the expiration of the freeze order would ipso facto give Bolante a free hand to do whatever he wanted with the said accounts. “Since there is no extension of the freeze order, Bolante cannot be prevented from withdrawing the funds,” the source said. SMC firms up Petron bid after signing option deal
Asian food conglomerate San Miguel Corp. (SMC) signed last month an option agreement to acquire 50.1 percent of Petron Corp., the country’s oil refiner, from a unit of London-listed Ashmore Group.SMC said it has two years from last Dec. 24 to exercise the option.
