‘Joc-joc’ gets back 32 bank accounts

CA FREEZE ORDER EXPIRED DEC. 20

Since Dec. 20, controversial former Agriculture Undersecretary Jocelyn “Joc-joc” Bolante, the suspected architect of the P728-million fertilizer fund scam, has regained control of some 32 bank accounts after the Court of Appeals (CA) allowed a freeze order on the accounts to lapse.

A CA official, who requested anonymity, said the expiration of the freeze order would ipso facto give Bolante a free hand to do whatever he wanted with the said accounts.

“Since there is no extension of the freeze order, Bolante cannot be prevented from withdrawing the funds,” the source said.

The CA issued a freeze order on the 32 bank accounts which were believed to have contained the diverted funds .. Full Story »»»

Gordon: 2010 elections’ automation doubtful

Because the Commission on Elections (Comelec) has yet to submit to Congress its eyed supplemental budget for the undertaking, Senator Richard Gordon yesterday expressed doubts that the planned automation of the 2010 national polls will push through.

Gov’t to draft zoning plan for Manila Bay

The River Basin Control Office (RBCO) will spearhead this January and February multi-sectoral consultations on the proposed zoning of Manila Bay, a major Philippine economic and cultural resource.

“Our consultations aim to harmonize the integrated coastal management (ICM) plans of communities along Manila Bay so these can be inputed to the proposed zoning plan for this water body,” said RBCO executive director Dr. Vicente Tuddao Jr.

SMC firms up Petron bid after signing option deal

Asian food conglomerate San Miguel Corp. (SMC) signed last month an option agreement to acquire 50.1 percent of Petron Corp., the country’s oil refiner, from a unit of London-listed Ashmore Group.

SMC said it has two years from last Dec. 24 to exercise the option.

The process for the sale of the controlling stake in Petron to SMC had started after Petron major stockholder SEA Refinery Holdings B.V. sold 947 million shares equivalent to 10.1 percent of the total outstanding shares in Petron.. Full Story »»»
