Entrepreneurship for out-of-school youth
04/11/2010 MFI Foundation Inc. recently announced a new Dual Training System program in agricultural entrepreneurship that will be offered in the MFI Farm Business Institute (MFI-FBI) campus in Jala-Jala, Rizal. The program aims to motivate out-of-school youth from training families to get into agribusiness. Agribusiness, which includes the value chain from the farm to the dining table, presents a host of business opportunities that can lead to community industrial food businesses. With an emphasis on hands-on training, MFI-FBI will offer post-secondary certificate courses on crop production, animal production, aquaculture, post-harvest processing, farm mechanics and irrigation, food processing and packaging, and agricultural logistics. A module (instead of a semester) runs for four months, with one month residential stay on campus for classroom and laboratory instruction followed by three months on-the-job training off campus. During this time, students will take up their courses via e-learning and instructors will visit them at their work places to check on the progress of the students. Several youth from Benguet will soon be training at MFI-FBI, in collaboration with Foundations for People Development, Philex Mining Corp. and DA-Agriculture Training Institute. For inquiries, visit the Farm Business Institute at MFI Bldg., Ortigas Avenue, Pasig City (beside the Medical City Hospital) or call (632) 631-2444 or 632-0756 to 67 local 523 or e-mail fbi@mfi.org.ph.
