DepEd, Amway Phils. champion kids’ literacy through One by One Campaign for Children

10/18/2009

Amway Philippines, one of the leading direct-selling companies in the country, recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Department of Education (DepEd) in propagating the love for reading and learning. This is part of the One by One Campaign for Children, Amway’s global initiative to help uplift the lives of children around the world, especially in communities where it operates.

“As we go full force in making quality education accessible to all, we laud private sector partners like Amway Philippines which invests in helping our children develop the love for reading. Reading with comprehension, as we all know, opens doors for other learning,” Education Secretary Jesli Lapus said.

“Amway Philippines shares DepEd’s commitment to uphold the Filipino children’s rights for quality education. This partnership with the DepEd’s Adopt-A-School program opens new doors for our One by One Campaign to impact the lives of more schoolchildren across the country by inspiring them to read,” Ador Bonquin, Amway Philippines country manager, said.

The campaign is being implemented in three public elementary schools such as F. Benitez Elementary School in Makati City, South City Central School in Cagayan de Oro City and Carreta Elementary School in Cebu City. The company sponsored the renovations of libraries in these schools and put up storytelling corners where children can enjoy reading storybooks during their free time.
