Dear Editor:
This has reference to the published article entitled “Solon wants probe of P60-B Navotas reclamation project,” written by PNA (The Daily Tribune, Dec. 27, 2011).
The news article stated among others that “under the P60-billion Navotas reclamation project, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) will construct a baywalk from C-4 to North Luzon Expressway traversing the cities of Malabon, Valenzuela and Caloocan.”
May we wish to inform that the DPWH is not the agency in-charge of reclamation projects.
However, the DPWH-Camanava Project Management Office has proposed a coastal dike along the Navotas area to protect the western part of Navotas City from intrusion of tidal wave during high tide. The project is included in the proposed Camanava Phase II (Valenzuela-Obando-Meycauayan and other related flood control project), now under feasibility study review. The project shall be located offshore, hence, it will not affect or dislocate the residents living along the Navotas shoreline.
In addition, as per information from DPWH Malabon-Navotas District Engineering Office, it has awarded the partial construction of the Navotas Coastal Dike along Manila Bay starting from C-4 Road Barangay Bagumbayan funded under the 2011 VILP projects, involving an amount of P45 million, to minimize flooding and possible storm surges. The said office further informed that the remaining phases will be implemented by the LGU of Navotas City.
Thank you and more power.
